Mechanics of FRP Composites
FRP Composite systems are comprised of fiber reinforcements (high strength carbon, glass, aramid fibers or combination of them) impregnated with polymer matrix system. They can either be cast in-situ or pre-cured in the form of rigid laminates and/or specially designed profiles. They operate as external reinforcement, bonded to the structural members through specially formulated epoxy resin systems, to resist tensile forces in the principal fiber direction. With the use of FRP Composite Materials in construction, it is possible to increase flexural and shear strength of existing structural members, and also increase in load carrying capacity [increase of concrete's strength and strain] of compression members by way of confinement.
